Monday Knitting Update- Travel Knitting

Consensuses were from last week´s post that for the Ravelympics I will be knitting Snowbird and I chose the yarn that I was wondering what to do with the week before that to knit it with.

This way I am staying true to my reduce and reuse and not bringing anything new into my house and using what I have. I believe I will be the first to knit Snowbird it in stripes though.

OK again I am going to need your help on deciding on something. Next weekend my AMAZING in laws are taking my kids for a whole week! Yes I know I am pampered. Well, my husband and I have decided to take a road trip to go visit a friend and check out Pennsylvania. I´ve driven through there a few times but not really looked around. Might even take a day trip to NYC which is only an hour´s car ride away.

Here is where I have a problem making up my mind. What should I take with me to knit? I have some works in progress that I might just finish (what a concept) but which one?

Should I finish my Faraway, so Close shawl?

Finish designing my Feel and See Blanket?

Or something else from my Ravelry Unfinished Patterns?

What are your favorite projects to take with you on trips? I have plenty of yarn, lots of sock and lace weight yarn so maybe if you guys come up with good suggestions then I might start something new as long as I wouldn´t have to buy any more yarn.

Itty-Bitty Update.

This week has been interesting. Sorry for the delay in my itty-bitty update. I have been busy with the long weekend and 2 kids with colds. Don’t worry I do have some yarn goodness to show you. I haven’t been lazy on that front.

This is how my princess and the pea is coming alone. Slow but coming along. I’ve finished half the mattresses now. I do need to buy the stuffing for them though. My knitting through the Itty-Bitty Toys book is coming right a long.

My Shalom is almost finished. I’m finishing the last sleeve and then I just need to weave in ends and sew on buttons. I made half sleeves because I tend to push sleeves up to my elbows. I guess it’s my get to work attitude. The Cascade Ecological Wool works very well for this project and I only used less then half of the second skein for the sleeves. It doesn’t hurt that each skein is less than 15 dollars and if you made the Shalom with out modification then you would only need one.

I made this in less than 2 days. It’s Milo. An Australian design that I found on Ravelry. It’s made with CotLin from Knit Picks which makes it warm but not too warm and it’s machine washable. A big plus when knitting for newborns. It’s for my neighbor down the street. She is having a little girl in October. I’ll be making some for my boys in wool and with out the OXOX on it to keep them warm this winter. I love that this can be made into a vest for boys or girls or a little frock for little girls. It’s easy to knit so if you are not experianced it is OK all you have to know is how to kit, purl and do a backwards loop cast on to make this. It will be my go to pattern for new babies for now.

I also started on a little hat for that little girl with scraps of yarn that I had laying a round. It’s Kilkenny from Wee Woolly Toppers. This one hurt my hands a little as soon as I got to the ribbing at the top. Very cute though. I liked the patterns in the book well enough to buy it. I’ll be making hats for my boys out of it this fall. I’m going to make the Cuba for M and the Tubey for O.

I still have a lot of UFOs (unfinished objects) laying around. I still need to finish my Tea Leaf Cardi, my Cedar Leaf Shawlette,  my Citron, My Vetur Lopi sweater, and my French Press Slippers.  Need to get myself organized and finish these UFOs before they finish me. Hopefully by next week I will have at least 3 of my UFOs finished. That would be my Shalom, princess and the pea, and my French Press Slippers.

Last night we shot the video to show how to do the navajo plying method while knitting to help people with using it in my cowl pattern. and hopefully I will have a working video by the end of the week and the pattern for sale both here and on Ravelry.

The URL is changing to this site from icelandicgardener.blogspot.com to knittingwitholof.com I thought it better suited.

Here are some shots of my boys being boys.

Yes, my 7 month old drives cars around the house and watches *cat* TV out the back door. O is playing on a piece of paper his Aunt Sabrina made with him the last time they saw each other. My husband took these amazing photos of our most important people in our lives.

Itty-Bitty Update and Yarn Giveaway!

Got some knitting done this weekend since my back has been on the frits.

Baby Doll is nearly finished. She just needs some clothes and a glitter in her eyes.  But she is a little cutie pie.

I am making this hat for a charity. It’s the Marshmallow Hat from Itty-Bitty Hats

My Tea Leaf Cardigan is of course knitted on when I am out and about but  I haven’t been going very many places and I’ve maybe knit 3 or 4 rows on it this week. I really need to get on track with my Itty-Bitty Toy
knitting.

It is raining cats and dogs here so you will not get any garden pics this time but I will show you a pic of the watermelon I got from the garden yesterday. It was very yummy.

And because the person that won the yarn during my first giveaway has not contacted me here is a chance to win it again. This is my own hand dyed yarn. It´s a 100 gram skein of merino wool from Knit Picks in fingering weight. I love the color. It just makes me sooooo happy just looking at it. This time if I don’t hear from the person that wins the yarn in 2 weeks after the announcement of the winner then I will take it as a sign and I will make it into a citron shawl for myself.

Late Itty Bitty and Garden Update.

Yes it´s Monday again and I can´t believe that another week has flown by with out me noticing it. I remember when O was a baby I waited and waited for the first 6 months to go by so he could start eating food but now 5 months are almost gone since M was born and I´m just thinking “Slow Down” He is just growing to fast.

This week was spent on a surprise project. My friend in Iceland had her baby a little early so I decided to throw together a little something for her little boy. What do you guys think. It’s a size 6-12 months so that it can be used a little longer. I almost want to keep it for my own son but I can make another for him. It’s made with pure merino wool from berocco that I had in my stash. I didn’t have enough of the chocolate so I added some baby blue. It’s the baby sophisticate by Linden Heflin and a super quick and easy knit.

I knit a few rows of the Tea Leaf Cardigan but with the baby sweater needing to be knit ASAP I didn’t do much.

I also had my class that I was teaching on making the Koala Baby from itty bitty toys by Susan B Anderson so I had to make another Baby Koala and it will be living at my local yarn store. The class went well. I would have wanted more time. For something like this you need a little more time than just an hour and a half. I think I was able to teach them to close the squishies and one of the ladies was learning how to knit front and back of a stitch for the increase. I also showed them how to graft the head on and the arm and all that fun stuff. Hopefully the next class will have more people in it though. Maybe I will teach the baby doll or the giraffe.
Baby doll was on hold since the little girl’s birthday is over a month away.

My husband has a favorite pillow for laying on the couch but it had gotten so bad that the stuffing was falling out of the front of it. He hasn’t found anything that is as comfy yet so in the mean time I made a cover over the old nasty pillow. I do have to admit that it is pretty perfect on size and squishiness. I’m thinking about doing some embroidery in the pillow case I made for it. I had flowers made from fabric to put on it but hubby was not a fan so Oh well. Do you have something that your husband can’t part with but you would be so happy if it just suddenly vanished?
On to the giveaway note. If the person that I mentioned in my last post does not get back to me in 2 weeks then I will host a second chance to win the yarn!

Anyway, My garden has been going crazy lately and it’s getting hard to walk around my beds to look for produce. So here are the pics.

Here is how much the watermelon has grown in one week

This is how much the winter squash has grown in a week.

The corn looks good

This is the Luffa and it’s just going crazy. It just keeps growing and growing.

My sweet little man helping me take pics of the garden this morning

The roses that mom and dad planted when they were here.

Sunflower that I didn’t plant but I really like so it gets to stay.

Double blooming day lilies that were here when we bought the place.

Day lilies that I got from the neighbor. She has lots of very pretty lilies

The heirloom rosebush in my back yard has a hip for the first time since I bought the house 5 years ago. I think I will try to grow the seeds. We will see how that goes.

I Really like these cone flowers.

The crazy bed of roses and daylilies.

My big boy still LOVES his snooder (pacifier)! We ended up getting the flat kind that doesn’t mess with his teeth.

He really enjoys coloring at the moment which I like because it keeps him occupied for a while.

And when M does this I get an opportunity to finish my blog posts.
